our plant kin do so much more than boost our immune system, heal wounds and support blood circulation. beyond the physical, plants support our mental and emotional body and our spirit. they have strong energetic properties that, when we are around them, work with them and listen to how they communicate with us (no, not with words, but through the Heart) we can gain so much wisdom of how to move through this life with contentment & ease. in flow with Nature.

I encourage you to go outside and sit with a plant. you don’t need to know what plant it is or what it’s ‘good for.’ just go sit with it. feel its energy. greet it. introduce yourself. share your story. and listen for what it shares back. many times I have identified plants by just being with them. without a book or an app or a key. they let themselves be known to me.

sit with a plant. what do you feel? where do you feel it? what comes to ‘mind’ (into the Heart)? what memories come up? what words, ideas? often, when you take time to present with our plant kin, you will receive answers to questions you didn’t even know you had. a deep understanding of knowing. thoughts will come to mind and you may ask yourself “where the heck did that come from?!” from the plant, my love.

a few weeks back, I wandered around picking violets. they spoke to me, not with words, but through my heart to share with me that they are willing to support me through the journey I was embarking on of starting anew, with courage. I know what violets look like. I have picked them before. but I never worked with them, intentionally. but here they were, willing to support me in my journey, I just had to ask, through presence. 🌱💛

Spring Associations Part 3: The Organs

The Liver

The organ associated with Spring is the Liver. Ever done Spring Cleaning? The Liver is our main detoxification organ, and thus why we cleanse in the Spring. Cleansing and detoxing your internal environment (and external) can be very supportive this season.

When there is physical and emotional stagnancy in the body, it can contribute to stagnancy in the Liver as well which decreases its ability to cleanse the body. This type of stagnation can cause tension in the neck and shoulders, poor sleep quality, migraines, impatience, frustration, irritability, PMS, digestive problems and more.

A common way to support the Liver and its function of detoxing this season is a liquid cleanse or fast.You can also support the Liver and detoxing it with herbs such as milk thistle, dandelion leaf and root and burdock root.

You can also support the Liver with regular movement and stretching, acupuncture, green foods (especially dark leafy greens) and sour foods.

Part 2 of Spring Associations: The Chakras🌀

The Chakras are energy centers in our bodies. There are seven main ones. The first half of Spring is associated with the Solar Plexus or Manipura Chakra and the second half, with the Heart or Anahata Chakra (try our Divine Sunshine tincture the first half of Spring to support the Solar Plexus and our Anahata Tea the second half of Spring to support the Heart Chakra.)

You may remember the Solar Plexus from Winter Associations, as it is also correlated with the second half of Winter. Nourishing The Solar Plexus in the Winter, helps to emerge with a spark, ready to be ignited in the Spring.

It is located just above the navel and is our center of internal Light. Working with this energy center in the beginning of the season helps to shine light on all of the seeds planted and helps them to grow into blossoming flowers!

The Heart Chakra is related to the Earth element and Yin energy. Earth is nourishing and provides seeds with the nutrients they need to grow (literally and metaphorically).

With the energy of our internal Light from our Solar Plexus Chakra and the nourishing qualities of the Heart, we can bring our goals, inspirations and dreams to life this season or renew old visions and create abundance around them 💛🌱

Spring is springing and I am in big transition mod

Spring is springing and I am in big transition mode right along with it. We come back to life in the Spring. Emerging from the Underworld, ready for rebirth. It’s the natural rhythm of the Earth we inhabit. Tune into these natural cycles is so healing & nourishing. This Winter was a very uprooting one for me and I am feeling it all still, but I am allowing the plants to guide me. Looking around to see all that is blooming here in Portland, through the rain and cold that we are still getting. Determined to bloom. I am following suit.

Some behind-the-scenes of a holistic herbalist for you. Don’t usually post stuff like this on this account but making tinctures and pouring elixir at events isn’t what makes me a holistic herbalist. It’s the day to day choices to live life in rhythm with Nature. It’s picking dandelions and violets on the side of the road, making homemade sourdough and nettle pesto pizza with community with songs around the fire on Ostara, adding magnolia petals right off the tree to enhance a snack board, feeding my sourdough so it grows more and more alive & nourishes me, stopping to admire and smell the flowers, crafting medicine and incorporating it and the lessons learned through it, into my every day life 🌱💛 nourishing my roots so I, too, can bloom
